Bought a new LCD monitor
Filed Under (Computer) by Mohd. Hashim Khan on 23-07-2008

philips 170cw

Many people get shocked to hear that up till now I was still using a CRT monitor. That big bulky thing was fine for me but few days back it started having problem of brightness and unusual tint. I was too lazy (or rather not willing) to get it fixed and continued to work on it. But one day it went kaput and stopped working at all. I took that monitor into my car and was on the way to repair center and it was quite a hot day. I thought why not just go to Ali bhai shop and buy a new LCD monitor (which is near my home) instead of going to service center (which is far away) in this hot sunny afternoon. I wanted my computer up in few hours and it was not definite that service center guy will fix my monitor in few hours. I turned my car and went to buy the LCD. I bought a 17 inch wide screen LCD of Philips. Model is 170CW and it cost me Rs.8500.

Connecting XP with Vista
Filed Under (Friends, Computer) by Mohd. Hashim Khan on 13-02-2008

lan connection
My friend Atif purchased a laptop recently from Dell, he was confused on which OS to keep. It was shipped with Vista basic but it was casing problem, though he tried XP for few days but again switched back to Vista. Now as his laptop was new, there was no ‘maal’ in it! From word “maal” I refer to those huge collections of mp3’s and DivX movies. Atif has told me few days back that he somehow need to fill enough goodies for months of entertainment. So whenever it comes to getting this ‘maal’, I contact my friend Waseem whose PC is always stuffed with good DivX movies and songs. Atif and Me went to Waseem’s home and tried to connect laptop with his PC via WiFi but were not successful. Then we tried using LAN cable but again the Vista was causing problem and not detecting the PC. After hours of tinkering here and there we were successful. Then started the huge file transfers which took an hour, we transferred about 35GB of data to laptop in an hour I think.

XP still the best OS
Filed Under (Friends, Computer) by Mohd. Hashim Khan on 03-02-2008

atif laptop
Today in the evening my friend Atif called me and he was in tension. The problem was Windows Vista. He had purchased a Dell laptop few months back and it came it Vista pre-installed, since then he was very uncomfortable with this new OS. His main problem was that his electronics related software was not compatible with Vista and overall the whole OS was annoying! He came to my house and started the Xp installation but setup was not detecting HDD, we thought that XP CD is corrupt so managed to get a new copy from somewhere but again same error. Later we found that a wrong setting in BIOS was the reason. I must say when buying a new laptop, one should ask for XP only.
