Its exhibition days and at Aligarh exhibition I have seen a new thing, you can have a 10 minute helicopter ride in which it takes a round of whole city (Aligarh is a small city) and you have to pay Rs.1800 (45 USD) for it. People are crazy over it and everyday this helicopter takes many rounds. What’s annoying that this helicopter goes quite close from my and my friend Waseem’s home making loud sound which of course cause problem. That helicopter sound is now continuously ringing in my ears. Really disgusting!

Looks like police of Aligarh is having shortage of funds (money for chai pani) so what they do is stand on road side and check all the papers of every vehicle passing by. It’s obvious that not everyone will be having all the papers which include registration, insurance, license etc and they have a chance of asking money for letting you go. Yesterday I was going with my mechanic to buy that rubber paint and they caught me and I had no papers! I took one of the constables in corner and asked of how to get rid of this problem now. He smiled and said to talk with the driver of police wan. I talked to him and at last he came to his point and asked for Rs.150 (about 4$). I asked him if he had a change of Rs.50 and he shamefully said yes. I gave him Rs.200 and he was quick to handover the change, I thanked him and went away. This small bribe saved me from the hassle of challan and saved time as well. However I will now carry all the original papers from now and then see, but I know I’ll have to pay the bribe every time they check because they point out some or the other mistakes in your paper and they know everything is right but for money they do it. I can remember once I had all the papers but the cop said that registration paper looks fake! (though it was not). But today when I was going with my friend Waseem to see his center for his exam, again they caught us and luckily this time Waseem did had his driving license with him. They however fined for not having other papers. While police men were doing their job and telling us to carry papers always, we were happy to have some stuff for blog LOL!

The old man in this photo is Legendary Sitar Virtuoso Pandit Ravi Shankar and you can read his words he has to say in the praise of his Dog named ‘Sukhi’. It’s really disgusting! It’s your dog and you may be happy with her but comparing a dog to human being (and that too children’s) is a matter of shame. Shame on you Mr. Ravi Shankar!! Children’s are considered replica of God in Hindu religion and forget about religious talk, children’s are innocent and cannot be compared with pet dogs. A question for Pandit Ravi Shankar, “Do you compare your own children with your pet dog?” Photo source: HT Sunday, January 20, 2008

I have talked about Mamu Bhanja ki gali several times in my blog and shown you what this market sells. I found a photo of that market in my computer so let me tell you about this market. I know this market since my childhood. Those were the days of radios and this market was flodded with different types of radios. Then came the cassette players and this market was not behind in providing cheap cassette players. Cassette players are still popular and you can see them still selling in the market. Few years back the compact disc revolution came and the whole market was stuffed with cd players. Now it’s the age of mp3 players and mp4, PMP, etc I can see really big dump of Chinese electronic goods in this market these days which people are buying too. These are people coming from rural area of Aligarh. The road is quite wide and not at all a gali but shop keepers have stretched their shops so much that very little space is left on the sides of the road. It’s best to avoid this road if you are on any kind of vehicle (2, 3, 4 + wheelers all included). Sometimes there are so many people in this market that it becomes hard to move around. |
